My name is Stephanie Nyman. I am a Clinical Specialist with Medtronic. 5 years ago I volunteered as a nurse with Project HOPE and the US Navy to provide tsunami relief in Indonesia. A year and a half later I volunteered a 2nd time to return to Indonesia and East Timor for humanitarian aid. These experiences were life changing. They are the reason I am in school to become a Nurse Practitioner: so that I can return and have more to offer in my volunteer work.
I have experienced the wonderful work the volunteers of ProjectHOPE (Hopies) have offered alongside the US Navy. Currently the same medical mission is on its way to Haiti to provide earthquake relief to the poeple of Haiti.
The people we served in these countries, where healthcare is so lacking or basic, were wonderfully appreciative. They do not have access to health care like we do in the US. The work we did returned me to basic nursing providing such meaningful care that impacted the lives of so many, words cannot even describe.
As I see the devastation on the TV, I ache to volunteer, but I cannot due to my husband's health and the care he needs at home. So I am requesting that any donation possible be made to Project HOPE to allow them to provide more volunteers and supplies to the people of Haiti through the US Navy's response on the USNS Comfort. I am hoping I can help in some small way by fundraising to help this cause.
